FAQ

Q:  Are we appropriate candidates for mediation?
A:  Usually,  yes;  it really depends on your willingness to cooperate with this very effective process.

Q:  How much will it cost us?
A:  It depends, typically it cost about 10% of the cost of a divorce that is litigated.

Q:  How long will it take to go through this process?
A:  Usually, much less time than the alternative route ... working together cooperatively saves a lot of time.

Q:  Will you advise us as to the best decisions for our divorce agreement?
A:  I do not advocate for either of the parties, however, I provide a good amount of legal information and sometimes options that the parties can use to make choices and decisions.

Q:  How does mediation differ from the other traditional divorce procedures?
A:  When you choose to use a mediator, this is an impartial person who helps the couple make informed decisions and develops an agreement that is mutually acceptable.  Unlike the traditional approach which generally is costly, time consuming and very stressful;  often unsatisfying to at least one of the parties.

Q:  Will you go to court with us when we have our divorce hearing?
A:  No, as your mediator, I will facilitate your agreement and prepare all the documentation needed to guide you both through the divorce process.  You may wish to hire an attorney to walk you in on the hearing date, but it is usually not necessary.
